Not every film works out as expected.
The skydive sequence in Batman Begins, which we filmed in the USA looked amazing. and the director was extremely happy with the original footage using Imax 75mm film.
It was a HALO sequence, but all jumps were done from 12,000ft.
We designed the custom HALO parachute equipment, but the most difficult part was jumping with the 75mm IMAX film camera.
We managed to make this sequence happen even though we only had 20 seconds of film available for each skydive.
We were refused access to the airspace above Hong Kong, so the director decided that he didn’t want the sequence without the exit, so all our hard work ended up on the cutting room floor and didn’t make it into the film.
